Patti's Cherry Side Table

cherry shaker side table

I designed and built this small cherry table for our friend Patti. The wood is cherry with a finish of Tried and True Danish Oil and paste wax. To darken the wood, I put the unfinished project in the morning sun for a few hours, which is a good alternative to staining cherry.

The top is 11.5" x 32.25". The height is 28".

This is my first project cutting mortises by hand. I was surprised to learn that I could get the table together fine, even though the mortises were not plumb.

I tapered the legs by drawing a pencil line for the taper, cutting to the line on the bandsaw, and then smoothing the cut with a jointer plane.
