Workbench 2.0

good, fast, cheap workbench

My first workbench was a door on sawhorses. This was my first real workbench. It was based on a website by Bob Kay. His website disappeared, but there is a still a pdf of the plans online for a Good, Fast, Cheap Bench.

The tail vice I dropped during installation, but it worked as a tail vise.

My main complaint was the top. I didn’t orient the grain of the boards the same direction, which made planing difficult. Also, I didn’t remove the rounded edges of the 2x4s before gluing, which left a lot of crevices in the top. Otherwise it worked well.

If I were starting out today, I would build a Nicholson bench like the one in The Naked Woodworker.

I replaced this workbench with Workbench 3.0.
